The Catholic Church’s year is made up of liturgical seasons. The cycle of prayer is based on a division of the year into periods, the principal liturgical seasons of Advent/Christmas; Lent and Easter and the divisions of Ordinary Time.
During these seasons, we come together to pray in ways which are significant to a particular season. During Lent, we gather together to pray and reflect upon the Stations of the Cross. Here, we experience the journey of Jesus from His condemnation by Pontius Pilate, his journey to Golgotha and his crucifixion and then his entombment. The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. At each station, we recall meditate, pray and then sing together focusing on a specific event from Christ's last day. It is like a mini pilgrimage as we move from station to station.
Stations of the Cross
The creative gifts of each class were used to design and create works of art that depict each station and we proudly display these images in our school corridor.
The Rosary
During May and October, we pray to Our Blessed Lady, the Mother of Jesus. We pray as a school saying decades of the Rosary together and we also have voluntary prayer times for pupils and staff.
Services of Reconciliation
We also hold Services of Reconciliation, during Advent and Lent and in this way prepare ourselves for the great feast of Christmas and Easter. By saying sorry and asking for forgiveness, we bring ourselves closer to God and each other.
